Art Exhibits In the Church Nave
June 4 to through September, 2008 Artist-in-Residence Kristen M. Watson, photographer
We Wish to See God: Places of Worship, a photographic exhibit by Kristen M. Watson, St. Paul’s Summer Artist in Residence, is an ongoing project focusing on the spaces and devices in use by people living and worshipping in Vermont.
Ms. Watson began the project during her study of studio art at the University of Vermont. With an eye toward abstract formalism, the images acknowledge the connection between article and environment, function and symbolism to the user. In her artist’s statement, Ms. Watson says, “the place of worship transcends religious boundaries as a sacred structure. It is mortal human’s attempt to express in matter the intangible qualities of infinite God. These images capture the spiritual fervor that is expressed in the architectural craftsmanship of centuries past and the loving maintenance of the well-used implements for connecting with God. They reflect the solace of sanctuary that is communion with the Divine.”
The Cathedral is open 9 AM to 4 PM Tuesday – Friday and between services on Sunday. Call for other times.
